Books We Are Reading...

Here is the ongoing list of books we are working our way through as part of our adventure. We welcome any additional suggestions any of you have for us. The names in parentheses after the book indicate who has, or is currently, reading the book. Please do not draw unkind conclusions from the fact that "Dad" appears after very few entries (I'm sure it is due to the fact that the books I am reading are really long and complex).

Yeah for God of Small Things. My book group is reading it this month. I'd also add a fascinating book of poetry to your Cambodian reading, Sacred Vows by U Sam Oeur. He's got an amazing life story, all captured in the set forms of Cambodian poetry. The pages have the poems in Cambodian on one side and English on the other. Truly wonderful poetry there.

I highly recommend First They Killed My Father, it's a very powerful perspective about the Pol Pot regime in the 1970s. Definitely not a light read by any means, but it's bumped Cambodia to the top of my list of southeast Asian countries to visit.
